Ilana Aviv is a sculpturess who live and creats in Pardes Hana, Israel. She is considered as an artist of the Earth in its most primordial, essential, life-giving form. Her wall sculptures invite a response as natural objects or places and suggest a perceptually grand scale. She creates outdoor sculpture and stone-like wall sculptures that are usually inspired by desert landscapes. A special inspiration she got from the Bible “Land of Havila story.

Ilana says ” There is often a story behind an art piece. These days I am sorting my work, taking out all pictures for my ebay store and helping my e-commerce manager making sense and order in all this huge body of work I’ve done. I remember the story behind this particular item “The land of Havila”
This work was made when I was attending a course that explored the interaction between an artist and the Bible. We were working on the theme of “The garden of Eden” trying to find out our interpretations for the text .
From Genesis:”
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.”
From that text I chose to refer to the abundance and explore how it affects the human Spirit. When its only slightly hidden and there is no need to make a real effort to find it. Then there is no real growth, or spiritual transformation. One need to practice life, relations, inner understanding, human love, Acceptance of what is, understanding the power of now, in order to have spiritual growth and empowerment.”
The work is made of concrete on mesh foundation( fiberglass net)and interates gold leafs 23.5 karat. The thnique is a unique one Ilana Aviv has developed which make the art piece very light weight. Sizes : 23.6” X 18.5”
“The Land of Havila” is currently being exhibit at the airport city convention hall , ISRAEL.
